Tech Bits
So maximumaardvark.com is currently running on my production box, a PIII 800 MHz running Win2k named Gondor. I have another computer lying around (I built it over the summer) named Rohan, a Duron 800 MHz running Slack 8. Way back in August, my intention was to get Rohan running as a router/bridge for Gondor, using the two NICs I put in Rohan. I got sidetracked sometime around the second weekend in September and basically haven't booted Rohan since.
maximumaardvark was kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing, so I quickly set up IIS on Gondor to run the site. I haven't noticed any sort of performance hit or bandwidth degredation (mostly because nobody reads this), but I know deep down that it's not the ideal setup; Rohan should be serving the site, not Gondor.
So, I've begun reading again about getting Rohan up and running. I think I found a pretty good reference here, but I'll have to try it later. An unfortunate side-effect of trying to switch servers is downtime; I'm not sure how often maximumaardvark will be up in the coming weeks. Of course, this shouldn't be a problem, as nobody reads this, but it's the principle of the thing.
If you can help me in my quest to set up a personal router/bridge/firewall (or can tell me what I should really call it), please email me.
