Boo

As expected, I caught the World Series last night. What amazed me was that the Yankees managed to score only two runs. Two Runs? Off of Brian Anderson? (Yeah, he earned both runs). It's clear at this point that the Yankees offense is badly broken, perhaps badly enough that a new champion will be crowned by week's end. I applaud Bob Brenly for starting Schilling tonight, because 1) you can't assume that he will win two of two starts (two of three...I'd call that a safer assumption), and 2) you absolutely can not give the Yankees a chance to tie the Series at two. This Series looks like it could go the distance, and Schilling should be on the hill for the ultimate game if it goes that far.

So the Yankee offense looks broken, but it's fairly clear that their karma isn't. I can't recall the last time I saw so many misplayed grounders and dropped fly balls in a week, let alone a single game. Maybe if the Yankee offense can't save them, their Yankee luck can.

MJ made a big comeback last night...not. But the Knicks and Nets both won last night, so the relatively small NBA fan inside me is happy. (The Nets? Fuck the fuckin' Nets, man; Knicks, baby, Knicks! Spree!)

Meanwhile, in the NHL, the Devils continue their 5-0 surge after an 0-4 start. I haven't weighed in on the Bobby Holik controversey yet this season (partly because I haven't kept up on the NY Sports Media scene as well as I should), but it's time: Lou, trade him. It's been proven year after year in New Jersey that those who don't wish to play here are not necessary. The Devils' farm system is too deep and too good to go unused; trade away Holik to a far away land (Vancouver must be nice this time of year, no?) and move on. It's clear that he doesn't want to be here next year, so why delay the inevitable? He's also becoming a locker room cancer. Bobby Holik, don't let the door hit you on the ass.
