Virginia's Always Home To Us

Sometimes there are forces greater than those we understand conspiring against you. Powerful forces. Frightening forces. Deadly forces.

Yesterday was one of those days where the forces are so blantantly conspicuous in their attempts to screw up your life that you'd really like to just kick them in the nuts. Unfortunately, these forces are not usually corporeal, and you wind up suffering the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune with no recourse.

The 350-mile drive from Woodcliff Lake to Harrisonburg usually takes about 5.5 hours to make. On a really good day, it takes only five hours; on a bad day, it takes over six. Yesterday, it took 8.5 hours.

Driving down the parkway yesterday, I made the comment to Dan that I'd really like to make it out of New Jersey before it started raining. 100 feet into Pennsylvania, it started raining. Indicitave of how the rest of the trip would play out.

The real trouble didn't begin until about three miles before 78 merges with 81. We sat there for about 75 minutes before escaping that mess.

The rest of the trip featured fog, accidents, blinding sunsets and pouring rain. I experienced, bar none, the worst driving conditions I have ever seen. I almost broke my steering wheel. And I was 30 minutes late to work.

Thankfully, that's all over now. Later today, I'll post a recap of Thanksgiving break.

SERENITY NOW!
