In the news today...
First, I'd like to announce that I am officially not a slacker. I have been named Lab Assistant of the Month for the month of November. As far as I know, this does not entitle me to any sort of monetary compensation (above what I usually get), but it's nice to be recgonized for my tireless efforts (and daily alarm at 6:30). Go me.
The coming week in the lab looks like it'll be pretty dead, as finals finish and people go home. Sure, there's the possibility of a rush of people trying to finish projects, but that seems to have happened last week. I guess I'll be getting paid for doing nothing in the coming week (not that I'm complaining).
High School Basketball Coach Fired for Allegedly Running Up Score: The score of this game was 67-11. Isn't it possible that the other team sucked so much that such a score was inevitable? Would the school administration have preferred to lose the game? The stupidity of school officials nationwide continues to amaze me.
Congratulations to Chris Jericho for becoming the "first ever" (not really) Undisputed Champion. Awesome.
Ashcroft vs. McCarthy: how well do you know your history (and current events). I got 11 out of 14 on this quizlet, and it's pretty disturbing. That's right, I disagree with Ashcroft; anyone got a problem with that?
From Rotten News: Today is the anniversary of the passing of this gem by the General Assembly of Virginia sentencing gays to death:
"That if any do commit the detestable and abominable vice of Buggery, with man or beast, he or she so offending, shall be adjudged a felon, and shall suffer death, in the case of felony, without the benefit of Clergy."
I'm so proud of the history of my temporary home.
Morons. They were bored. I'm speechless.
What's the big deal with the BCS? The purpose of the thing was to give a mathematical basis to the two teams that play for the national title, and that's what it did. Controversial though Nebraska's win may be, they got it legitimately. Maybe the formulae used to calculate BCS are flawed (they are): OK, change them for next year. But this year, everyone played by the same rules, and Nebraska came out on top. Or maybe not, since all they really have to look forward to is a shellacking by Miami.
In other sports news, the Devils are back up over .500. Yay! End the suckiness!
