The Final Update

In about 90 minutes, Gondor will go down for three and a half weeks. Unfortunately, this means that you, Constant Reader, will be without the Aardvark until 7 January 2002 at the earliest. I can make no guarantees as to when Gondor will be back up and running, but it will be a top priority upon returning to JMU.

Final thoughts on the year? I was bored. I made the mistake of thinking that an insane first two weeks of school would be a harbinger of doom for the rest of the semester and dropped a class, reducing my load to 14 credits. After marching band ended, I was basically taking 12 credits. Much boredom.

Unfortunately, I can't even look back on the semester safe in the knowledge that I learned a lot. Two of the four classes I took (discounting marching band) were rehashes of what I learned in high school about biology, calculus and physics, and I really didn't get anything out of them at all. Thankfully, I should get an A in both classes, so they function at least as GPA padders.

My music class was at least interesting; chances are, I'll wind up taking some sort of music history elective in the future. But CS 240 was the jewel of the semester. It solidified my feelings that I'm in the right major and actually enabled me to read some papers about the actual science of Computer Science and not feel completely lost. It gave me a reason to begin to learn C++. And it gave me the opportunity to find a great teacher in Dr. Bernstein. I'm rather looking forward to CS 349 with him next semester.

Merry Christmas, from MaximumAardvark.com.
