Class Overview
Now that I've been to each of my classes once, it's time for my regular class analysis. This semester I'll be evaluating them on two scales; one, an honest impression of the teacher and anticipated syllabus, the second a slightly more crude scale that I shall call the georgeha method.
CS 349 - Developing Interactive Multimedia
Welcome to college. I've been anticipating this class since I registered for it back in November, and the first session did not disappoint. Dr. Bernstein has already come up with a memorable quote ("My wife is indeed a woman, otherwise I would call her my 'life partner'.") and announced that it is the best pure programming course on campus. I am so excited.
georgeha rating: It's a CS class. Guess.
CS 350 - Computer Organization
A class with Dr. Adams is a class with Dr. Adams, regardless of the course title, as we've already learned about number bases. This one is going to be a struggle to get through, but it's required. One of those 'rites of passage' for a JMU CS major.
georgeha rating: Not a single female.
ECON 201 - Microeconomics
The teacher seems like a pretty nice guy and I already know I enjoy the subject matter, so I'm optimistic about this course. There was a 33-question 'evaluation' on the first day of class to determine 'where we stand' with regards to economic knowledge; it was hard. Fortunately, I have 15 weeks to learn the material.
georgeha rating: largely populated with freshmen, this class looks like a keeper.
GENG 248 - Survey of American Lit II
Within 20 minutes of the first session, I noticed that the professor has an annoying habit of inserting "OK?" every few words; I'm going to have a stroke if it doesn't stop soon. Other than that, there will be a lot of reading, which is OK, and papers, which I haven't written in over a year. I'll probably have to work fairly hard at this course.
georgeha rating: Another GenEd class, which is good, but the classroom is tiny and I didn't get a chance to scan the crowd yet. I'll reserve judgment on this one until a later date.
ISAT 241 - Analytical Methods III
Another physics class--my favorite. The professor speaks kind of slowly and inserts pauses at odd points, but he seems nice. Shouldn't be too hard, as I'm sure I've already learned most of it in high school.
georgeha rating: See any CS class.
