Washington Post: Ashcroft says Christianity better than Islam. No man can completely separate his personal life from his work, and I am not suggesting that all government officials should be atheists, but John Ashcroft needs to be a less evangelical Attorney General. Since Teddy Roosevelt's "bully pulpit," Presidents and other high-ranking officials (both elected and appointed) have used their position to promote their personal views, but this is simply going too far.

"Islam is a religion in which God requires you to send your son to die for him. Christianity is a faith in which God sends his son to die for you." This is an unfair, uninformed comparison of two religions, and if Ashcroft can't at the very least keep his opinions to himself, he should not be serving as Attorney General. Period.
