Vanilla Sky (the review)
Vanilla Sky is a great concept. Like The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, it challenges the viewer to make sense of what is going on in the movie. If, at the end, you still haven't figured it out, the film explains itself. Vanilla Sky fails because not only is the concept wholly unbelievable, but the "explanation" is, in a word, ridiculous.
The film is not without merits. Like I said above, it is a great concept, but the execution is lacking. As a result, the entire plot of the film must be force-fed to the audience in an interminable five-minute sequence.
In the end, I must still recommend seeing the movie (wait for HBO), if only for the soundtrack. It saved what was otherwise a severely disappointing movie.
