Power to the People!

My mom works as a maternity nurse at Pascack Valley Hospital. She's looking at going on strike on Saturday morning. The current wages of the nurses working for PVH are $5-$10 below the wages at other local hospitals. The hospital is refusing to increase wages to competitive levels. At the same time, PVH refuses to implement staffing ratios that could guarantee the safety of patients.

Instead of taking steps to prevent a strike and offer competitive salaries that might attract nurses to the hospital, the management at Pascack Valley is preparing to combat the strike by making use of undertrained, underqualified nurses from out-of-state. If you or someone you know is expecting a hospital stay for any reason, avoid Pascack Valley Hospital.

Mom is unwilling to blog about the struggle herself, so I'll keep updating here about the fight.
