NTLDR Not Found

I walked into my room and my computer screen was black, save for a few fateful words:

NTLDR Not Found

My heart stopped. My palms started sweating. And within a few minutes, I experienced, firsthand, the IBM Deskstar Click of Death.

My 60GB system drive for Gondor is DOA. 35GB of data down the tubes, including my resume, 15GB of (mostly legal) music, and six years worth of school work.

I'm now working exclusively on Rohan, my Mandrake 8.1 box. I've always wanted to move exclusively to Linux, and it looks like now is the time.

Can anyone help me recover data from my other hard drive? Is there hope?

  1. Well, most likely your data is all there.

i suggest you take you hdd and connect it as a slave in a friend’s computer, preferabley running the same os and file system ( you know ntfs or fat )- If all goes well, from this computer you’ll be able to browse thro your folders and transfer data to cds or thru a network ,etc

NTLDR can be fixed with sys.c, i suggest you look for more info in Microsoft’s Knowledge Base, can’t remember article reference tho’. Hope this helps

  2. All you need to do is boot your computer from a windows 95, 98 or ME startup floppy disk. When the computer is booted, from the A: prompt type “sys c:”. This will transfer the info needed to boot from your hard drive. Remove the floppy and reboot.

  3. Wow!

    That actually worked!

    Thanks!

  4. hey thanks, worked fine :D
