Two Great kuro5hin Stories

The first is on the high rate of prison rape in America. What shocks me is that it isn't even taken into account that rape is illegal. People are sent to prison (ostensibly) for rehabilitation, but it essentially amounts to prevention: lock these guys up, and they can't commit any crimes until their sentence is up. We cannot even police our prisons correctly!

The second also deals loosely with law enforcement: Traffic Law Enforcement: In Whose Best Interest? As the author discloses fairly early that he recently received a speeding ticket, it seems like the rest of article should be sour grapes. Instead, it's a well-researched, well-written piece about just who benefits from traffic violation enforcement (hint: it's not the general public).
