Speaker Status

I've all but given up on ever making my digital speakers work with my SoundBlaster Live Value card. Gateway has been reduced to sputtering "You'll need to reload the original operating system," even though it's Windows 98 and even though I've explained repeatedly that I just did a clean install of Windows 2000. I suppose I can't really blame 'em, because they're just following protocol, but you'd think they might have a few tricks up their sleeves beyond "reinstall the drivers, repeatedly."

So I don't know what I'm going to do. Ideally, I'd find a soundcard that does digital output that I could plug into my box, just to see if it's a problem with the card that I have. I absolutely do not want to get a new speaker system; I love my Boston Acoustics digital speakers. They're thin, clean, and can really crank the volume. Maybe a new soundcard? Ah, the sound of money flushing...
