My computer remains silent

I received a new Soundblaster Live! from Gateway yesterday. I plugged it in, booted up, tested my sound, and the same problem remains. So it's not a problem with the soundcard.

When I partitioned my new hard drive, I left about 20 GB of slack space at the end. I partitioned half of that as NTFS last night and did a clean install of Windows 2000 on it, then installed only the Soundblaster drivers. The digital output still does not work.

I still don't know what is wrong with my sound, but I know what it is not: my speakers, my soundcard, or the drivers for the soundcard.

Update: The problem is also not the PCI slot. Thanks, Dan, for the idea.
