Lab Changes

Once again, I'm working in the Hillside Basement as a lab assistant. You may remember the drama that ensued in May when I was denied a position as lab manager because of my dedication to band, and my bitterness continues. Due to overstaffing this semester, I am limited to working only three two-hour shifts in my lab of choice. This is Not A Good Thing.

Just the same, I have made the best of it. I picked up the 8 AM-10 AM shifts on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and am now in the middle of my first shift of the year.

The lab actually got an upgrade over the summer, and all the computers were replaced with new Dells (though I can't seem to find specs on the website). Unfortunately, the assistants who worked over the summer apparently left something to be desired, as three computers were stolen, including the one in the lab assistant's office. I shit you not folks. The office is locked when there's not an assistant on duty. You do the math.

So I'm sitting with the plebeians today in the lab itself. Thanks to the Win2k upgrade, permissions are now set to disable Control Panel access. Which means, of course, that I am stuck at 800x600 resolution without font antialiasing. And since you can't access the Control Panel, even to lower the sound, all I hear around me is the impossibly annoying default AIM sound. God help me.
