Class Preview
Six classes, including marching band. 17 credits. Two (hopefully three, but more on that later) jobs. Can I handle it all?
In the tradition of past semesters, I will write briefly on each class: that is, my expectations, my excitement level, and how many hot girls there are (known as the georgeha method of class evaluation).
CS 252 - Discrete Math
Incoming freshmen to the CS program are now required to take this class simultaneously with CS 240, so there are actually a fair number of sophomores in this class. I am convinced that the professor is actually George H. W. Bush, based both on his accent and his overall appearance. Happily, he posts problems online before each class, and completing them before the midnight before class excuses you from that class. Hopefully, I'll be able to self-educate enough that I can take liberal advantage of this opportunity.
georgeha rating: Not too excited about this one.
CS 460 - Local Area Networks
We've got a new professor to break in at JMU: Brett Tjaden, creator of the Oracle of Bacon. Same classroom as CS 350 last year, and much of the same crowd. This will be an amazing class, no doubt, and may finally lead to me choosing a more specific career path than "something with computers."
georgeha rating: CS should stand for "Completely Sans females," or something like that.
GEOG 240 - Natural Resource Conservation
I took this class as an elective because I think I need a science to fulfill my BS requirements. Either way, I'm excited about it. I'm surrounded largely by hippies, and I readily admitted how out-of-place I felt during introductions. One guy suggested (facetiously, I hope) that they "string me up," but I'm looking forward to the discussion.
georgeha rating: Excellent.
GHTH 100 - Personal Wellness
All sorts of things in this class that I'd rather not be involved in, but it's a GenEd requirement. Mandatory exercise is one of them; I'd rather force myself to do it than be forced. Dan and Amanda and I are all in it together, though, so it can't be too bad.
georgeha rating: Mostly freshmen. Especially on the first day, when everyone was "dressed to impress," this is another excellent.
GPSYC 101 - General Psychology
It never hurts to know why my brain works the way it does. Perhaps I might self-diagnose my various psychoses after this class. Another easy GenEd requirement.
georgeha rating: Mostly freshmen. See the GHTH class.
