What A Start: 0-1
Tonight began the season of the JMU Dukes, against the Pirates of Hampton. We scored first, but they scored the rest until the fourth quarter, leading 31-7.
The Dukes made a game of it, bringing it to within 31-28 with six minutes to play. The Dukes were driving on the Pirates' 30-yard line. Then, like they tended to do last year, they fumbled.
The Dukes didn't stand a chance after that. They got one final, feeble possession, but couldn't get a first down to save their lives. Final score: 31-28.
Compared to just about every game last year, tonight's was amazingly exciting. Actually, for any football game, tonight's was exciting. I have no voice.
P.S. The band rocked, too. Now we need to learn an entirely new show--three songs, drill and music--before next week's show. Wow. This will be an interesting week.
