Misallocated Funds
Amanda and I were discussing at lunch how misguided some of the money allocation is here at JMU. She obviously is coming from a different place than I, as her department is situated on the older side of campus and routinely deals with undersized classrooms. I get to routinely take advantage of more spacious accomodations, but we can at least agree that the installation of what appear to be bookshelves and CD storage racks in the Festival seems wasteful.
Another example of the seeming inability to pinpoint areas ripe for improvement is the lab in which I am sitting right now. It is one of the several labs used by CS majors for classes with a lab portion, and it, like the others, seems stuck in 1998. The computers are ancient Pentiums with 64 MB of RAM, running Windows NT 4.0. Meanwhile, the general purpose labs across campus benefited from upgrades over the summer that left them with 1.7 MHz Pentium IVs running Windows 2000.
It boggles the mind.

Looks like even my computer is more hip than most of the ones you have in your labs…imagine that! Guess I’m good for a while yet! When I’m done I’ll donate it to JMU.
