Even More Shock

I went to bed early last night, so I didn't get a chance to catch the Braves/Giants game. In fact, I've been so preoccupied today, it hasn't hit me until now: the Braves have made another early round playoff exit, taking what may have been one of their greatest seasons in the past decade and flushing it down the toilet.

As a die-hard Mets fan, it's almost too much to swallow, with both the Yankees and Braves being eliminated within a few days of each other. But enough with the schadenfreude: let's look at the upcoming NLCS between the Cardinals and Giants.

The Cardinals simply spanked the Diamondbacks. For all their talk, Arizona was exposed as a very old team with a tremendously suspect lineup, beaten on all counts by a younger and hungrier (not to mention better managed; never thought I'd say that about LaRussa) team.

The Giants eked out a series win over the Braves behind (of all things) stellar clutch pitching. Livan Hernandez and Russ Ortiz saved this season for them.

So who's going to win? I hate to think that Barry Bonds' postseason woes will continue, but I'm going to stick with what I thought would be the case way back in March and say that the Cardinals reach the series. Cards in six.

Comments and Trackbacks

  1. Wow… yet another unpredictable ending to another series - the Braves are going home crying. Looking ahead for a second, I’m honestly having a hard time picturing these teams - any of the four - playing in the World Series. A few weeks ago, few people would have thought the Twins, Angels, Giants, and Cards would all be left standing in early October. With this said.. for what it is worth, here are my predictions.

I predict an all California World Series - Angels / Giants. Who will win? I’ll get back to you on that…

  2. Barry Bonds will continue his amazing season, but it will not be enough. This is the Cardinals year. Cards in 7

  3. Cardinals…that’s all I’ve got to say. Their my team and they WILL win. I say in six over the Giants (maybe 7). Go REDBIRDS!!!
