The Day After
Local races turned out OK, apparently. The Democrats in town are notorious for giving the Fire Department a hard time about anything they want to do, and Republicans took both open seats.
In other local news, the Virginia bond issue passed, so we can look forward to assloads of construction in the area. This is a good thing.
The Congressional race in the 5th district was a blowout, as Anne Sumers got her ass handed to her. So now there's a right-wing nut representing me in Congress. Whee!
NJ Senatorial race turned out OK; I wasn't too impressed with either candidate, but in the Senate, any seat for a Republican is a bad thing.
Which, naturally, brings me to the fact that Republicans now control the Executive and Legislative Branches in their entirety. Here we go: drilling in ANWR, corporate tax cuts, more deficit spending, a guaranteed war in Iraq (and probably here as well), and enough Judicial appointments to set the Judciary back thirty years. Don't be surprised if Roe v. Wade is challenged and overturned in the next ten years or so.
This is going to be quite a ride.
