Concerts I Never Thought I'd See
For a long time, I hated the Dave Matthews Band. Hated with a capital HATED. Then someone, probably Dan, gave me Under the Table and Dreaming to listen to and I fell in love. On May 25, 1999, I did the unthinkable: I saw them live.
Paul McCartney is old, and getting older. I've been a fan since I was about ten, but between his ever-increasing age and the extravagant ticket prices of any concert he plays, I thought I'd never see him live. That all changed this past April, when I ventured to MSG alone to see one of the greatest rockers of all time.
Back in 1996, when Boys for Pele came out, I remember seeing a Tori Amos video on VH1 (yes, I was never cool enough for MTV). I recall the VJ saying something about her father being a minister, and her getting in trouble with some Christian groups for her album art, and I remember liking Caught a Lite Sneeze (if not the video, which I regarded as pretty weird at the time). Six years later, I'm driving four hours round-trip to see her play in Fairfax. The curveballs life throws are funny sometimes.

It was me, I admit it.
Before that, you were hardcore R.E.M., no?
It’s true, R.E.M. was my thing before DMB. They’ll always be my first.

I may not turn you totally Tori, but hey, I’m glad that I helped to push you this far (of course, Howie as opener helps…)
I’m glad you’ve pushed me this far, too. New music is a Good Thing.
