And I Feel Fine

The New York Times has an article about a rejected plan that would have fundamentally altered the Internet as we know it today. Though reading the article makes it seem less severe than the headline makes it seem, it raises interesting questions about who should control the most basic elements of the Internet. Though no single entity controls it, critical services such as the World Wide Web and email (which, to many, is what the Internet is) could be largely brought to their knees by either well-placed attacks or takeovers.

A story like this underscores the importance of the efforts of people like those who work on FreeNet. Though I still don't understand the complete technical details of FreeNet (and I have tried), the ideals that they uphold are admirable and critical to the continued free flow of information on the Internet.
