Foo Fighters at the Patriot Center

I tried to Audblog from the concert, but I couldn't get a signal inside the building. I was going to say something about it afterwards, but I was driving home in a thunderstorm and thought it more important to focus on driving. I hope you can forgive me.

The opener-opener was Cave In, and while I didn't hate them, I was not impressed. The opener was Transplants, and I managed to summon actual hatred for their punk-industrial screamfest. The moshers loved it.

Foo Fighters hit the stage around 9:10 with All My Life and rocked for two solid hours. Setlist included (but was not limited to) My Hero, Breakout, Times Like These, Up In Arms (for his parents, who were in our section), Stacked Actors (during which Dave Grohl walked around the arena and Amanda touched him (though not in the Bathing Suit Area)), Hey, Johnny Park!, Monkeywrench, and Tired of You.

Dave announced that This Is A Call would be the last song, and the PA died halfway through. After stalling for time and realizing that the PA wouldn't be coming back, the crew turned the monitors around and the band played a mellow, crowd-assisted Everlong as the last song. Then they did their real last song, Learn to Fly, also just with the monitors and lots of audience participation.

Dave's interaction with the crowd was possibly the most I've ever seen at any concert. Some choice quotes:

• [after getting flashed] "Honey, my parents are here. You don't need to go showing your titties. I've seen that shit before. Besides, you might want to think about getting a lift." (I wonder if her self-esteem was shattered)
• "I don't understand that hippie shit. 'Oh man, I can't believe Phish broke up. First Jerry, now Phish. What are we going to do?' Come to our show, and we'll fuck your shit up for a couple hours. ... Did you catch the new tie-dye shirts at our merch stand? No? That's because we don't do that shit!"
• "Can we help it if we blew out the PA?"
• [In response to "Dave on drums" chants] "Shut the fuck up!"
• "No, the next song we play will not be Freebird, motherfucker!"
• "Sweedish chef? What the fuck is that? You've been screaming that shit all night! Is that like the muppet shit? So what?!"
