Radiohead Synchronicity

A post on Audioscrobbler mentions that Radiohead records played at the same time work together. I didn't believe it, so I opened up two instances of Winamp and loaded The Bends and OK Computer. I'm only about halfway through at this point, but it looks like this is the real thing.

I'd never realized how similar Planet Telex and Airbag are, to begin with. Then, as Airbag's last note rings out, the first chord of The Bends comes in. High And Dry begins to play right as the third act of Paranoid Android starts. Fake Plastic Trees and Subterranean Homesick Alien fade in and out of each other, and it sounds like they're changing tempo.

Throughout, dueling Thom Yorkes trade vocal lines, and call/answer each other. One sings "If I could be who you wanted...all the time" as Exit Music (For A Film) plays (written for the Romeo + Juliet credits, ostensibly, but was it part of a grander scheme?).

Portions of Bones and Let Down interlock too perfectly for it to be a coincidence. As Let Down ends, the first chords of Just begin.

The piano notes at the end of Karma Police match up perfectly with My Iron Lung. "At a better pace" right as the louder, upbeat middle section of My Iron Lung begins. "When the power runs out" as the power runs out on Fitter Happier.

The first verse of Black Star matches with Climbing Up The Walls and it is...mind blowing. The Thom Yorkes synchronize and harmonize.

The guitar line on Sulk matches up with the structure of the part in No Surprises.

The reason for the weird time signatures in The Tourist are clear, because they match up with Planet Telex as The Bends starts over.

According to the Audioscrobbler mention, this works with any of the records (though Pablo Honey isn't mentioned, and it wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't work, since Radiohead released it before they were Radiohead). In any case, I have a lot of listening to do over the coming days, weeks, and months.

Radiohead may very well be the greatest band of all time.
