'Free' Press

One of Paul Krugman's recent editorials on concentrated media ownership has been making the rounds, and he mentions Fox News' Neil Cavuto as an example of the blatantly biased, flag-waving coverage on Rupert Murdoch's Funderful Right-Wing Information Clearinghouse. What's really funny is Cavuto's response, where he resorts to ad hominem attacks not once, not twice, but three times. Count 'em: "sanctimonious twit," "pretentious charlatan," and "ass" (he was clearly running out of steam toward the end).

Hey, if you can't win an argument on merit, just make fun of the person--I've done it myself. But from an "anchor/commentator" on Fox News, in print, it's a classic. I especially like his scathing closing remark: "Now may I suggest you take your column and shove it?"

Priceless.
