Nets-Spurs Game 6
Never blogged a sports event live before...tonight seems like as good a time as any to start, with my laptop in the living room watching the Nets/Spurs game with Mom and Dad.
- 8:42 PM: Dad says "It's quarter to 9, start the game already you stupid assholes!" I hate these intros.
- 8:46 PM: Lord of the Rings score during the pregame intros. Interesting.
- 8:47 PM: Tipoff. Finally.
- 11:12, 1st quarter: Up 5-0. Nice start.
- 10:28: God, I wish I could just mute Bill Walton.
- 8:23: K-Mart is back, baby. 4 consecutive points to make it 9-6 Nets.
- 7:06: Missed call on a walk by Parker. Kill the refs.
- 6:10: And the first timeout of the game. Let the commercials begin.
- 5:40: 13-8 Nets and still no fouls. Cool.
- 4:55: Spoke too soon. Offensive foul on Robinson, thankyouverymuch.
- 4:16: Kidd has been cold as hell tonight. The Nets don't want to be relying on him for points, but they have no prayer if he keeps this up.
- 3:22: Kidd finally hits an off-balance shot from the top of the key, and the score stands at 19-10.
- 2:40: Kenyon gets his first foul of the night, a senseless shove after he doesn't get a call. As mature as he's gotten, he still has some growing-up to do.
- Every time I see Kelly Ripa on TV, I think of that Family Guy where she is revealed to be a horrific fly-woman.
- 1:09: Technical on Byron Scott, which is weird because Popovich was jawing at the ref at the exact same time on the other side of the court.
- 0:59: Observation by Dad: Following the T, the Nets get the call. Very interesting.
- Nets close out the quarter 25-17, and the Spurs, for once, don't finish with a strong run.
- We're back, and Mr. 4th Quarter Steve Kerr is in the game.
- 7:29, 2nd quarter: 31-23 Nets, and a TV timeout.
- Taco Bell commercials make me think of Amanda. How fucking sad is that?
- How is it possible for a clock to malfunction in a state-of-the-art arena in one of the biggest games of the year?
- 6:10: Kidd to Williams to end a Nets scoring drought. 33-25.
- 5:39: Timeout after four consecutive turnovers.
- 5:01: Duncan has 4 blocked shots so far. This is pretty crazy.
- 4:47: Spurs have an aggregate 8 blocked shots so far.
- 4:26: Bowen brings the Spurs to within 3 with a huge 3-pointer.
- 4:05: Kittles answers back. 36-31 Nets.
- 2:51: Haven't been too many fast breaks in this game (have there been any?) and yet the Nets are still out in front. This is a good sign.
- This laptop is extremely hot on my lap, and not in a good way. I should've picked out a Centrino model.
- 1:38: Duncan gets two chances under the basket with three Nets around him. Not good.
- 1:18: Another Kenyon foul. Still only two, but Scott's pulling him out now. Better safe than sorry.
- 0:52: Kidd is still shooting like shit.
- 0:39: Tied at 38. Nets have 13 points this quarter.
- Kidd comes up with a huge 3, and the Nets lead 41-38 at the half.
- Not that halftime shows are ever useful, but why is Joel Siegel involved in this?
- The ten games of Freecell I played were far more stimulating than anything they said on TV during halftime.
- I gotta get that Ace from the bottom of the pile...oh, right, the game is back on.
- 9:31, 3rd quarter: Huge 3 from Kittles to put the game at 48-43.
- 8:58: Turnover by Parker, another foul on the Nets. Nets up 52-43 now.
- 8:42: Another Spurs turnover, 3rd in the quarter.
- 8:06: "Holy crap" pass by Kidd through traffic leading to a 3-point play. Nets up 55-43.
- And a timeout by Popovich.
- 6:50: 15 turnovers for the Spurs.
- 6:41: Fire call and Dad is gone.
- 3:31: Dikembe's coming into the game...awesome.
- 3:17: Duncan hits a huge 3, and the Spurs are only dows 59-53.
- 1:33: Kidd puts up another prayer from outside and misses horribly. I wonder what he's shot so far tonight.
- Nets lead 63-57 at the quarter. Could be a great finish coming up.
- 11:38, 4th quarter: Bill Walton has not said "Throw it down, big man!" all night. Could he go the whole night without? Please?
- 11:00: Two huge baskets by Kidd, and the Nets once again lead by 10.
- 8:56: Kidd with a huge rebound, keep-alive and assist to put the Nets up 72-63.
- 8:20: Another block by Duncan. He is unreal.
- 7:45: Dad's back.
- 7:08: Timeout following a huge Steven Jackson 3 to cut the Nets' lead to 72-70.
- 6:33: And the Spurs lead for the first time this game, 73-72.
- 5:21: The Spurs are on a 14-0 run, and the Nets have taken a page from the Spurs' own book and are collapsing big-time in the 4th quarter.
- 4:45: 80-72 Spurs. This game is over.
- 3:20: Kidd scores a meaningless basket. 82-74, and the Nets have one timeout remaining.
- 2:12: The Spurs are celebrating. It's all over but the crying.
- 2:02: Kidd and Kittles have both missed great looks for 3 in the past 30 seconds.
- 1:32: Tim Duncan is two blocks away from a quadruple-double. I almost hope he gets them.
- 1:20: Jefferson's turn to miss a wide-open 3.
- 0:55: Last Nets timeout. Down 84-77. Why am I still writing?
- 0:36: Foul on Ginnobli. Gotta be the last of the game.
- 0:00: Final score: 88-77. Congratulations, Spurs.
- One last thought: Please come back, Jason Kidd. Please.
