Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - Left of Cool
While there isn't a story behind this CD beyond the one I already told, it's made this list because of the many ways it can be listened to. In addition to being a great piece of music in its own right, it's also mellow enough to be treated as, well, a background. Thanks to that, my after concert ritual (during the drive home) used to entail putting this CD in my changer and putting it on loop until I got into my driveway. The drive back from Irving Plaza, particularly up the West Side Highway, reminds me of some of the tracks on this record.
It also reminds me of cutting classes senior year in high school. But Dan already ruined that story.

I’m a bastard.
Nonetheless, “cutting classes” reminds me of Mr. T, who would call out “Adam? Adam Schuster?” while taking attendance in Physics every day. And invariably you, me, or Rob would reply “AJ’s right here, Mr. T.”
Except that one day when you replied “No, he cut, Mr. T.”
And he started filling out a cut slip, as I recall. Probably would have sent it out, too, if we hadn’t explained it all to him.
For those of you who didn’t go to high school with us, YES, our physics teacher’s name was Mr. T. No, he did not wear forty pounds of gold around his neck (but that would have been hella cool).
