Howie Day - Australia
In keeping with the theme of "Artists I found directly or indirectly through my obsession with Dave Matthews Band," I submit Howie Day. I'd never heard of him when he opened at my first Pat McGee show, but within a few weeks of seeing him perform, I was an official Howie Day rep and selling four song samplers in school to anyone who showed the most remote interest.
By the time Australia came out, I was a freshman in college, and receiving my autographed copy for being a rep was an incredible feeling. I was so sure that I was going to make a difference, to help Howie hit the big time...
I still have one unsold copy of the original release of Australia.
On the upside, I've never paid to get into a Howie Day concert (rep privileges rock!), and I'll be able to say "I've followed him since Day One," when his new record comes out and goes multiplatinum.
