Billy Joel - River of Dreams
I anticipated this release with some enthusiasm, but I think I was still too young at the time to appreciate how big a deal it is when a new record comes out. Thanks to this, I didn't get a copy for quite some time after it came out. Fortunately, my friend Brad got a copy the week it was released, and I went over to his house to listen.
What I remember most about this record is not the music (which is awesome, by the way), but the cover art. I recall seeing on some PBS special that Billy Joel's then-wife, Christie Brinkley, painted it. I was intrigued, and was experimenting with Mario Paint for Super Nintendo, a mouse-based console drawing program. I actually recreated, in intricate detail, the entire painting in that medium. I hooked the console up to a VCR and recorded my effort, only to lose the tape at some point.

Heheh, I went over to Brad’s place to listen to Before These Crowded Streets was released, because I couldn’t get it the day it was released, for some reason.
Wow, I hope Brad doesn’t stumble across this some day and feel used.
Heh. I also used Brad for his Super Nintendo immediately after that came out.
But seriously, we were best friends all through grammar school and most of middle school.
