Un-FUCKING-believable
As I get ready to pack my computer up (hint: I won't be online for the next 24 or so hours), I must rant a bit about the latest actions of the JMU Board of Visitors.
Actually, I can't find a whole lot of fault with their actions today. Today, they did the right thing in reversing last year's ridiculous decision prevent the JMU Health Center from dispensing the ECP. But the margin with which the reversal passed today--an overwhelming 10-2--makes last year's move look even more blantantly political in nature.
Mark Obenshain spearheaded the move to ban the ECP on campus last year in preparation for his run for a seat in the state Senate. He used the students at JMU as a political tool to appear tough on abortion. There are so many things wrong with this, on so many levels, that I can scarcely begin to express them coherently. As he expected, though, his actions gained him extra approval with all the stupid fools who believe that the ECP is a form of abortion, and now he's got a comfortable seat in Richmond. Mark Obenshain, ladies and gentlemen, is the definiton of douchebag.
I know that, by writing something in a manner like this, I am only ruining my credibility for when I want to write about serious issues a little more thoughtfully. I'm willing to take that risk; this is exactly what I meant when I said I'd blog a little less self-consciously. Right now, I am just really fucking angry about this. And sometimes, there's only one thing you can say when you're really angry: Motherfucker, motherfucker, motherfucker.
