What's A Heapsort?

Today is University Assessment Day, when seniors take meaningless (to us) tests that our departments will use to evaluate their curriculum. We CS majors were handed the AP CS-B test. I have one pressing question: what is a heapsort?

On the whole, I think I acquitted myself well, but the questions on sort algorithms (there were two) and tree traversals (which one requires a queue?) threw me. I think I would have done better on the test as a sophomore, when visions of Big-O notation still danced fresh in my head.

  1. I like to think of the assessment test as CS240: Redux.

What a waste of time; they could have given us a connect-the-dots puzzle and learned as much about the effectiveness of the program.

  2. Connect the dots! That’s what I drew on my scratch paper!
