Recent Movie Wrapup
M*A*S*H
Saw this last Tuesday as required viewing for my film class. Although I liked North By Northwest a lot, this film may be my favorite so far this semester. Tremendous war satire, and as relevant today as I’m sure it was thirty five years ago.
Old School
I finally watched this on HBO after being told repeatedly how awesome it was. Will Ferrell couldn’t even redeem it for me, and I turned it off with twenty minutes remaining. Complete and utter crap.
Shallow Hal
Watched part of this on HBO17 while I was home in an attempt to put myself to sleep. Actually more engaging than Old School.
Big Fish
It had its moments, but it didn’t hold together the way I hoped it would. Interstingly, the part I liked the least was also the most “Burton-esque” (the circus vignette).
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
I walked in expecting something dramatically different than what I got, and so it took me some time to process it after seeing it, but this is an incredibly creative and profound look at love. Dan tells me it is a very different film after a second viewing, but that’ll probably have to wait for DVD.

My thoughts:
MASH - I liked this so much I went out and bought it on DVD after seeing the movie. My favorite class-viewed movie in college.
Old School - Pretty stupid and entirely overrated. Will Ferrell is funny, but in an awkward way.
Shallow Hal - Sue me, I missed this one.
Big Fish - I think the movie is really good in a whimsical kind of way. I won’t lie, I was choked up at the end.
Eternal Sunshine - As far as I know, we’re seeing this on Thursday when you guys come to visit. I’ve been planning on that for two weeks now. Am I wrong?
Shallow Hal is my guilty pleasure. It’s the one movie that I know is God-awful, but I still watch it over and over because damnit, it’s nice and I’m a girl.
Old School, on the other hand, sucked.
Steve-
I wouldn’t have a problem seeing it again, so long as Dan doesn’t have a problem seeing it a third time.
Jess-
I actually didn’t watch all of Shallow Hal, but I had a pretty good idea of how it was going to end, and your description was exactly the impression I got.
