The week that was
I’ve been in relative seclusion since the weekend, unpacking from school while concurrently repacking the stuff in my room so that Amanda and I can paint it this upcoming weekend. I collected pennants as a kid, and I discarded at least sixty in the past two days. I’ve gotten rid of furniture. I’ve donated books to the local library. I’ve boxed up other books and stored them in the basement. And there’s still plenty to do.
Amanda and I are still on a timetable to leave on our trip next Thursday. A week from today, we’ll begin the whole affair at Niagara Falls. I can’t believe we’re actually doing this.
I met with my boss today for about an hour to discuss the position I’ll be taking when I get back. Everything—salary, benefits, etc.—is worked out.
I don’t anticipate checking my email much (if at all) starting next week, but I decided to forward everything to my Gmail account in case I want to. It’ll be a good test of its robustness for me, as I’ve only used it with a few friends and traffic on it has been quite low.
The ipod (which I have named Merry) has forced me to forget about my love of ogg vorbis and reconvert my music collection to mp3. The lame --alt-preset-standard-encoded files sound at least as good as—in some cases, better than—the 192k ogg files I used to have. They’re a bit bigger, but I can handle that. Merry will be wiped before we leave to allow for storage of over 10,000 images from our trip.
I’d weigh in on the Movable Type licensing fiasco, but my current usage of MT would qualify me for the lowest tier of personal licenses, and I’d pay that. Sure, it could have been handled better, but people make mistakes: it’s only when they don’t correct them that they become a real problem.
