Tables Turned

Amanda’s sleeping patterns have never matched mine: in college, I preferred working in the morning, taking early afternoon classes, and having my evenings and nights free, while Amanda liked to sleep until 10 or 11 and start her day with lunch. Consequently, she has always tended to stay up later than I.

We’ve lived together for nearly four weeks now, and 1) my having a roughly-8-to-roughly-4 job, and 2) her low-pressure job search have exacerbated the situation: I’m generally asleep by 11:30 or midnight while she stays up until 3 or 4. She’s complained about being painfully bored in the time when I need dark and quiet to sleep, but I never really understood.

Tonight Amanda was asleep by 8:30. I am bored as hell.
