Note to US Congress

Away messages are inherently ephemeral. Sometimes they’re nonsense, sometimes they’re awesome (those two are not mutually exclusive), and sometimes they actually say what’s going on. Today I read what is possibly the greatest away message ever, and I feel compelled to share it here and preserve it for posterity.

Mike, if you’ve got a problem with this, let me know.

Dear U. S. Congress and President Bush:

Given your recent willingness to pass legislation aimed at specific individuals, I would like to ask you if you’d mind passing a resolution that would allow me to go back to bed for a while. Except for that whole “getting AIDS from sweat” thing, Bill Frist is almost like a doctor, so he can tell the rest of you how important sleep is. Mr. Bush, I’m sure you’ll sign the bill into law, for, as we all know, in extraordinary circumstances like this, it’s always wise to err on the side of sleep. Thanks, legislative and executive branches!

Yours, etc.,
Mike
